What’s funnier than a dead baby? A dead baby in a clown costume.
Am I the only person who thought the “baby shake” iPhone app was kinda funny (albeit tasteless)? I know I’m not the only guy who’s laughed at a dead baby joke before. Won’t begrudge Apple for removing it, of course.
More problematic is the Nine Inch Nails app, which got rejected because it allows streaming of that stupid “fuck you like an animal” song. Also it’s hypocritical; the song in question is sold on the very same iTunes Store — under an “explicit” sticker. Which makes me wonder if a “mature” category isn’t on its way to the store, and what that might lead to.
The bigger question, though, is whether this is sustainable at all. I want to believe that it’s not, that Apple has to throw the gates open someday. But the sales are so lucrative for them, and the competition just isn’t materializing.
